I was trying to edit the master fic list that heads my journal, and completely mucked it up, losing half the links. Why? Because I got hopelessly lost in the millions of FFVII fics I've written. As that's only a slight exaggeration, I've decided to split the FFVII fanfics off to a separate post.

Title: Distortion
Fandoms: Kingdom Hearts II/Final Fantasy VIII
Pairing/characters: Leon/Seifer
Rating: G
Word count: 2,905
Warnings: angst
Prompt: areyougame, Crossover, Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy VIII, Leon/Seifer & Seifer/Squall: AUs - it was like looking into a twisted funhouse mirror
Summary: Some things are best left alone.
( The past is one of them. )
LJ has posted a proposed code-change to
changelog that would make it mandatory to select your gender at sign up. Further, the only options you would be given are male or female. Although 'Unspecified' was scarcely a perfect choice for those who do not fit this binary subset, it was still recognition that some of us are not, and some of us don't think it's anybody's business but our own.
There are several reasons that this offends me, and should probably offend you, too. For starters, the only real reason for collecting this data is to be able to statistical analysis: the kind that impresses advertisers come money time, the kind that allows them to target female users with diet ads (or deodorant for men, apparently), and other various monetary considerations. It doesn't change your legal right to access or be protected from potentially offensive material, because I doubt any of us are going to suddenly start selecting 'male-' or 'female-only' options for posts the way we do for those that have adult content.
( What it does affect is your right to withhold information that may see you targeted by advertisers or even by random weirdoes. )
( And it also affects your ability to identify youself accurately (or as accurately as possible, because like I said above, 'unspecified' is scarcely a perfect answer). )
A better understanding of the issue can be found here, as well as a suggested form letter to register your disagreement with this newest policy. I would like to suggest that people go and change their gender to 'unspecified' and send a polite response via LJ feedback. And let others know, because it may affect them. Although the US general manager has said in response to direct email that this particular change will not go ahead I don't trust this to mean they will not make the change eventually - I am cynical enough to note that among other things, this code is apparently faulty, so no, of course it won't go live. Another version, however, might.
ETA: the code has officially been rolled back - it won't go through with the next code push. Also, a response from the feedback team says that they did not intend to remove the 'unspecified' option - this was accidental. See cynical comment above as to why I still think you should change your gender to 'unspecified'.

Title: Detail
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Pairing/characters: Tseng, Veld, Rufus
Rating: G
Warnings: Nothing of note. Set pre-game.
Author's Note: This story is the start of a continuity, a series of one-shots that are related. Most of them are going to be fairly gen in nature, focusing on the relationship between Tseng and Rufus, although there may be some shounen-ai hints later on. Please note, this is not a multi-chapter fic, because I hate trying to write those - I am a lazy updater. I will, however, tag all related fics to make them easier to find.
Summary: The traditional reward for a job well done is...
( ...another job. )

Random ficcage strikes again! I have a few other things I'm working on, and if tomorrow goes well, expect a flood of porn_battle fics, but for now, here is a completely unexpected fic for a fandom I rarely ever write.

Something a bit different. A friend - who I enticed over to the yaoi side with the promise of cookies - watched Loveless some months back, and convinced me to do the same, because we were debating whether or not Soubi really is a pain-slut. (I last read the manga years ago.) Actually, re-reading the manga, I think he sees pain as a validation of his existence. But anyway, here is random Loveless fic.
